Complete the following reactions / chemical equations and name the
main product formed in each case-
(i) CH3COOH + C2H5OH acid
(ii) C2H5OH conc. H2SO4 (3)
Heat(443 K)
Also state the importance of conc. H2SO4 in this reaction.

i) CH3COOCH2CH3+H2O

PRODUCT-ETHAL ETANOATE

ii)CH2=CH2

PRODUCT-ETENE

H2SO4 ACT AS A DEHYDRATING AGENT THAT REMOVES WATER FROM ETHANOL

b)CATENATION & TETRAVALENCY

THEY R POOR CONDUCTORS OF ELECTRICITY BECAUSE THE FORM BONDS BY SHARING ELECTRONS. SO, THEY DO NOT POSSESS ANY FREE IONS OR ELECTRONS, THE MOVEMENT OF WHICH GIVES RISE TO THE FLOW OF ELECTRICITY.

Very Good Question. Thanks For Asking !!!

(i) CH3COOH + C2H5OH  :
It is the reaction between ethanol and ACetic acid in presecence of Conc. H2SO4 to give a  sweet smelling compound called as Esters also known as Ethyl Ethanoate.

This reaction is called as Esterification reaction.

CH3COOH + C2H5OH ----------> CH3COOC2H5 +H2O

                   Conc.H2SO4
ii)
C2H5OH------------------------>CH2=CH2  + H2O
                    443k

This reaction is called as Dehydration reaction . In this reaction main product formed is Ethene.
In this reaction Con. H2SO4 acts as dehydrating agent which removes the water molecule from the ethanol molecule.
