Hey.

CaCO3+ H2O = CaCO3 + Ca2+ +CO3 2- + H20

No reaction will take place under normal circumstances if distilled water is used. However, two alternatives do exist:

A hypothetical reaction, in which the reactants are exposed to an atmosphere free of carbon dioxide. This, in accordance with the LeChatelier’s, will allow dissolution of the calcium carbonate to give CO2 and Ca(OH)2.

In carbon dioxide saturated water, the insoluble calcium carbonate solid will give carbon bicarbonate, which is soluble in water.

Thanks.
