I went with pretty much the same logic you went by, but shouldn't the answer be 10 not 12? Correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Answer should be 10.
Alternate numbers 4, 5, 7, etc increase by 1, then 2, then 3, etc.
Alternate numbers from the second number go like 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10.
