16 on moving to x can be written as: 16 × 3 + 3²

Which is nothing but, 48 + 9 = 57.

Now 57 on moving to 244 can be written as: 57 × 4 + 4² = 244

Since the pattern is fixed for all the cases, the missing term is 57.
