Bacteria "Rhizobium", Nodules of the leguminous plant, Nitrogen fixation.
Rhizobium is the most beneficial bacteria to agriculture. It absorbs nitrogen gas (that makes upto 80% of the air we breath) from the atmosphere, convert it into ammonia which is then used in the formation of amino acids and nucleotide, improving the fertility and productivity of low nitrogen soil. Rhizobium are the legume root nodule bacteria that require a plant host for nitrogen fixation. Most common crops where this micro organism is found are peas, beans and soy. Many poor farmers do not have the access to artificial fertilizers. Hence due to the nodulation process, there are high levels of soil nitrate present in the soil after the harvest of the crop which can again be used by the next crop.
