Answer:

Inhaled air is by volume 78.08% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen and small amounts include argon, carbon dioxide, neon, helium, and hydrogen. The gas exhaled is 4% to 5% by volume of carbon dioxide, about a 100 fold increase over the inhaled amount.

Air is a mixture of certain gases such as N2 , O2 , CO2 and rare gases & other substances such as water vapour and dust particles. Air contains all these. Normally , the composition of these gases remains constant except for vapour and dust particles. But the composition of air inhaled and exhaled varies. Exhaled air has more carbon dioxide and less oxygen, because the oxygen inhaled is used up in the oxidation of food, and the carbon dioxide produced during cellular respiration is exhaled. Water vapour in inhaled air varies but the exhaled air is saturated. The concentration of other gases remains constant. The temperature of inhaled air, whether less or more becomes the same as body temperature when exhaled.
