Children’s Day is celebrated in India on 14th November every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru, senior Indian National Congress leader and also the first Prime Minister of India. Jawaharlal Nehru oversaw the proceedings of the INC during the freedom struggle. He was a contemporary to veteran freedom fighters like, Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri and Bal Gangadhar Tilak among others. He loved children and had on several occasions, expressed his views on their education, welfare and contribution in the progress of the nation. He was of the opinion that children are the future of a nation. If we want the nation to be strong and progressive then we must provide good growth opportunities and education to our children. His love and consideration for the children has earned him a sobriquet “Chacha Nehru” or “Uncle Nehru” given by the children.
