Composition of the nuclei of two atomic species A and B are given below :

Protons

Neutrons

6

6

6

8

(i) State the mass numbers of A and B.

(ii) What is the charge on the atoms A and B?

(iii) State the relationship between the two species.

I) mass no. of A=6+6=12
mass no. of B=6+8=14
ji) charge in both A and B will be same as proton =6
iii) as they have same atomic no. (no. of protons) but different mass no. so they are isotopes.

\red {HELLO\:DEAR}

Mass number of X = Number of protons + Number of neutrons

= 6 + 6

= 12

Mass number of Y = Number of protons + Number of neutrons

= 6 + 8

= 14

These two atomic species X and Y have the same atomic number, but different mass numbers. Hence, they are isotopes.
