We are given that the composition of two atomic species X is 6 protons and 6 neutrons and Y is 6 protons and 8 neutrons.

Again, we know, the mass number of X = No. of Neutrons + No. of Protons = 6 + 6 = 12.  Again the mass no. of Y = 6 + 8 = 14.

The given species are isotopes since their atomic numbers are the same, but the mass number is different.
