The substance used in whitewashing and gives off heat when dissolved in water is calcium oxide (quick lime). Therefore, compound A is CaO.Compound B is calcium hydroxide and compound C is calcium carbonate. The reactions are as follows:

CaO + H2O → Ca(OH) 2 + heat

 (A)   (B)

Ca(OH)2 + CO2  →  CaCO3  +  H2O
