compound 'x' on heating with excess conc, sulphuric acid at 443 K gives an unsaturated compound "Y". "x' also reacts with sodium metal to evolve a colourless gas z'. Identify 'X', 'Y' and 'z'. write the equation of the chemical reaction formation of Y' and also write the role of sulphuric acid in the reaction.

X-ethanol
Y-ethene
Z-Hydrogen gas...
.
.
C2H5OH--------in presence of hot conc. h2s04...it changes C2H4 + H2O...
.
and h2so4 act as a dehydrating agent..
.
thx...mark it as brainliest

ploopyman: can't sulphuric acid act as a catalyst
abhishree7810: It is the dehydrating agent....
yashikant537: i have written catalyst. it is wrong or right
Aryan12502: yashikant it is wrong
arshkathp5ow8k: Can we write H2SO4 as reducing agent??
Aryan12502: No because..h2s04 removes water not oxygen so its a dehydrating agent
Aryan12502: u can refer to ncert.. it is clearly given there

Answer : X => ethanol
Y => ethene
Z => Hydrogen gas

Explanation :- when Ethanol is heated with excess amount of concentrated sulphuric acid , gives unsaturated compound Ethene (C2H4)
here , conc. sulphuric acid as as dehydrating agent because it ejects water from ethanol.
reaction is ---
CH3CH2OH ----> CH2=CH2 + H2O { in the presence of Conc. H2SO4 at 443 K}

now, when Ethanol react with sodium , colorless gas e.g., Hydrogen gas evolved in reaction.
reaction is ---
2CH3CH2OH + Na --> C2H5ONa + H2
