they are categorised as acids as the compounds they are made from are generally acidic.

  • We know that ,in acid H+ ions completely ionize in water so that they conduct electricity.
  • While compounds like alcohols and glucose partially ionises into the water.
  • That why Alcohol & Glucose are not considered as acids.

ACTIVITY

  • Take 3 Beakers
  • Name The Beakers as A , B & C
  • Take HCL in beaker A , alcohol in beaker B & glucose in beaker C
  • Make a electric circuit. Connect the wire with 3 beakers.
  • Beaker, in which, the bulb glows, that Beaker contain acid because acids complete disassociates into water to form H+ & OH- ions which conducts electricity.
  • This activity prove that the electricity passes through completely ionised liquids are acids.
