Technology has had a profound impact on modern society in many ways.  It has changed the way that people work, the way that they communicate, the way that they access information, and even the way that they relate to each other.  As a result, it has also had a profound impact on education.

As computers have become ubiquitous in modern society, so has the impact of their use on education. Computers have allowed us to expand the role of the teacher and to help learners reach higher levels of understanding and achievement. At the same time, computers have also shifted the nature of the classroom-a shift that has, at times, been difficult for many educators to accept.  Human beings are not computers.

The benefits of computers to education are many. Most people agree that computers and the Internet provide access to a wealth of information and reduce the time it takes to learn new information, and they agree that computers help to increase students’ interest in learning and help them to develop an aptitude for learning, as well as important 21st century skills.

Computers offer many benefits: better organization, increased productivity, access to information, and the ability to communicate.  The flip side is that computers can also cause harm: distraction, anxiety, and lack of focus.
