Micro means small, minute and organisms means living creatures. The word Microorganism refers to small one celled living organisms that cannot be seen with naked eye.
In order to see them, we need a microscope. Some of them are human friendly whereas some causes diseases in animals and plants and are known as pathogens.
The most commonly known pathogens are bacteria and viruses. They have different modes of nutrition and life cycles.
