Qutub Minar :

Qutub Minar which stands at Delhi was built by Qutub-ud-din Aibak and Iltutmish. This Minar has become world famous for its great height and architecture design. It's construction was started by Qutub-ud-din Aibak in 1192 CE and was dedicated to the Sufi saint Qutub-ud-din Bakhtiyar kaki. The structure was completed by Iltutmish in 1220 CE.

It's special features are:

a) It has five storeys tapering as they ascend.

b) The Minar is circular Tower about 14.3 metres at the base and tapers to the width of 2.7 metres at the Summit.

c) Red sandstone, marble and grey quartzie were used in the construction of the Minar.

Qutb-ud-din Aibak (CE 1206-1210)

He was the first ruler of the slave dynasty. A slave of Muhammad Ghori, heroes to become his most trusted general. Ghori appointed him as the viceroy of Delhi, when he left India for Afghanistan. After Muhammad Ghori's death, Aibak became the Sultan of Delhi. He became the founder of the Turkish empire in India. He secured the Western borders and also captured the forts of kalinjar in BundelKhand and Anhilwara in Gujarat. He died in 1210 , of injuries sustained while playing polo.

Iltumish (CE 1211-1236)

A slave originally, he became a trusted general of Qutub Uddin. He really established the Turkish Kingdom and saved it from destruction. He faced the many problems of his reign firmly. He is regarded as the real consolidator of the slave dynasty. He created a group of nobles called ' Turkan-i-Chahalgani' or 'Corps of Forty ' to suppress the power of disloyal nobles. He defeated some Rajput rulers and also invited Ranthambor, Mandasaur, Bayana, Ajmer , Nagaur and Gwalior. He divided the Empire into Iqtas and assigned them to Iqtadars.

He is said to have completed the Qutub Minar started by Qutubuddin Aibak. He was the first Turkish ruler to introduce coins with Arabic inscriptions on them.
