Answer:

around the Earth. The hydrologic cycle is important because of the role water plays in biological processes, climate, and other elemental cycles. Some important processes are:

(1) Evaporation and Transpiration: Water evaporates from both the land and the ocean. Through transpiration, plants take up water from the soil and emit it as water vapor through their leaves.

(2) Precipitation: Water vapor is transported into the atmosphere by evaporation and transpiration, but eventually falls back to the earth. 90% of this water vapor returns to the ocean and 10% returns to the land as precipitation.

(3) Runoff: Water either from the land's surface (i.e., rivers) or as groundwater makes its way to the ocean.

(4) Groundwater production: Precipitation onto the land seeps through porous rock and soil and pools above layers of impermeable rock to create groundwater. The porous rock that groundwater is stored in is called an aquifer. An aquifer can be drilled to provide wells for fresh water.
