In 1859–60 peasant farmers who grew indigo in the Bengal region of northeastern India rebelled against the British planters who controlled the industry. Their widespread violent rebellion is variously known as the Indigo Revolt, the Indigo Rebellion, the Indigo Riots, the Blue Mutiny, or the Blue Rebellion.

The indigo farmers all united together against the Englishmen. They all participated and played a major role in first war of 1857. Though their revolt was crushed cruelly, but they successfully brought the end to the East India Company and thus also they wrote a Golden Page in Indian History.
