Conclusion of mass movements of Mahatma Gandhi
Answers
The Quit" India movement was the last in the series
of mass movements launched oy the Indian National Congress
under the leadership of the Mahatma Gandhi. It swept across
the length and breadth of the country. The Congressmen were
filled with patriotic fervour and urge to act and suffer for
the nation. They were keen to gain freedom from foreign
domination. The Quit India movement, however, followed an
uncharted course quite different from the non-violent satya-
graha movement as planned by the Congress. This happened
primarily oecause the entire leadership of the Indian
National Congress was removed in one swoop from the political
scene soon after the passing of the Quit India Resolution,
leaving the people utterly leaderless and confused. As a
consequence, the movement developed into a people's revolt.
In different regions the people and leaders followed
different plans. It, without doubt, was a serious threat to
the Raj. However, it was suppressed by the brutal power of
the Government.
Mahatma Gandhi was the first leader who started the mass movements all over India. His first mass movement was Non_cooperation Movement which spread to all the corners of India and all sections of people participated in it.
The next movement of Gandhi was Civil-Disobedience Movement which also spread to all parts of India. All the people and especially women and students played an important role in this movement.
The last mass movement of Gandhi was Quite India movement which was started in 1942. Here Gandhi give the call "Do or Die". This mass movement also played an important role in winning the freedom of India.
So Gandhi believed in the power of people and accordingly launched these mass movements. Ahimsa and Satyagraha were his methods of resistance.
