Conditions in India and java under colonial rule:
According to conventional colonial theory, the British ruled directly in most parts of India, particularly in the populous northern provinces, where they had replaced most institutions of the Mughal empire and its ruling groups. Under the Dutch system of dualism on the other hand, the aristocracy remained in charge of the local government of Java and other parts of the archipelago, albeit under close supervision of the Dutch. Furnivall did offer an explanation for these different systems of colonial rule in terms of underlying differences between both colonial powers: by the presence of industrial capitalism, utilitarian liberalism and a unitary political and legal tradition in the British case, and their relative absence in the Dutch case. As a result, the position of the traditional ruling classes was on the whole less prominent in British India than in the Dutch East Indies.
Hope it helpzzz.....

every factor has a good and a bad aspect........colonial rule in INDIA is a best example for that.....to look at positive aspects
1) BRITISH colonial rule bought in modern means of transportation and communication
2)helped Indian people to come out of prejudices
3)Paved way for various political and non-political organizations
4)helped to reform society......and remove I'll customs
NEGATIVE ASPECT
1)colonial rule was enough to suppress Indians
2)cause harm to their self respects
BUT THESE NEGATIVE ASPECTS WERE ALSO SUCCESSFUL FOR ENABLING BASIC NATIONALISM AND POLITICAL , ECONOMIC, SOCIAL CONCIOUSNESS AND UNIFY PEOPLE ON VARIOUS BASIS
