The cities and towns in Thailand are governed by the municipality The Municipality is the most
important form of local government in Thailand. It is responsible for a large urban area with
imited self-governance. There are three different classes of municipalities in Thailand, based
on the size of the population. They are the City Municipality or Thetsaban Nakhon, the Town
Municipality or Thetsaban Mueang and the Commune Municipality or Thetsaban Tambon
City Municipality is that which has a population of over 50,000. A Town Municipality is one
which has a population of about 10,000-50,000. A Commune Municipality is that which has
population of less than 10,000. Each Municipality is composed of an elected municipal counc
ind a municipal executive board. The number of members in City Municipality is 24, whereas fe
he Town Municipality, it is 18 and for Commune Municipality, it is 12. The council comprises o
