Let me name the two friends (because I just love naming people and things).

Let us assume that the two friends are called Rakesh and Mukesh.

(Rakesh and Mukesh, two friends, meet outside their school after collecting their exam results)

RAKESH : Hi! How much marks did you get?

MUKESH (gloomily) : I failed...

RAKESH (surprised) : What? How can you fail? You always do better than me in all the exams? Are you joking?

MUKESH : No! I really failed. How much did you get?

RAKESH : 82%. This is the first time I have ever got above 80% in annual exams. I am really happy. But I am sad to hear that you failed. I never even imagined that you will fail. I clearly remember that in 5th standard, you secured the first rank. It is really unbelievable.

MUKESH : Won't you ask me how many subjects I failed in?

RAKESH : I think you failed in only one subject. Maybe in Hindi?

MUKESH : No! I didn't fail in one subject.

RAKESH : Two?

MUKESH : No!

RAKESH (in a surprised tone) : You failed in more than two subjects?

MUKESH : No!

RAKESH : What do you mean?

MUKESH : (gloomily) I mean that...that...(suddenly very happily) I mean that I didn't fail in any subject. Of course, I passed and that too with 91%. Ma'am is even saying that I might secure a rank in the top 3.

RAKESH : Were you joking all this time? Are you joking now?

MUKESH (cheerfully) : I was lying about failing. I just wanted to see your reaction. I did got 91%

RAKESH : Wow! Congratulations!

MUKESH : Thank you!
