Conservation of fuels is the need of the hour. But not much stress is laid on saving the fuels because in the present day fuel is essential for almost everything and we cannot do without those things. For example with urbanization distances have increased.  Some means of transport is essential. So more people own vehicles which use up fuels. Due to increase in population there are more mouths to feed. So invariably more fuel is used for cooking. Another reason is that people are not aware that they should use fuel judiciously.
