The standard  deviation of the readings is 3.16

Explanation :

Given the following data set :

19, 17, 15, 13, 11

Mean of the data set:

X = ( 19 + 17 + 15 + 13 + 11 )/5 = 15

Hence

variance  = [(19-15)² + (17-15)² + (15-15)² + (13-15)² + (11-15)²]/4

= [16 + 4 + 0 + 4 + 16]/4

= 10

We know that standard deviation is defined as the square root of variance,

hence,

standard deviation = √10 = 3.16

Hence the standard  deviation of the readings is 3.16
