X element

atomic number is 17

electronic configuration is 2,8,7

valency will be 1-

Y element

atomic number is 19

electronic configuration is 2,8,8,1

valency will be 1+

i) compound formed

X            Y

1-             1+

no crossing we get

X1+Y1-

XY

the formula for the compound formed will be XY

ii) for electron dot structure of XY see attachment

iii) Potassium atom has just one valence electron and Chlorine has 7 electrons, Cl atom needs just one more electron to complete its octet, which it receives from K atom. So an ionic bond forms between potassium and chlorine and Potassium Chloride gets formed
