Social media is at its peak now as teens and young adults are swarming all over the internet and posting statuses on various social networking sites. As the internet expands and the world gets more in depth with technology the world has somewhat begun to take a damaging toll on younger crowds. Although some may disagree, I feel that our generation is more self-centered because of newer technologies, social networks, and violent games or films. For instance, I think social media has made a major influence in today’s generation when it comes to self- and teens now a days tend to float towards things that relate to them and not really anything that expresses who they are as a person and how caring they are. A majority of posts that I view as a teen are related to how much they don’t care and whatever other people say doesn’t mean anything. This is a prime example of how self-centered we are. Moreover, my strong opinion suggests that newer technologies is another contributor to self-centeredness. Teens and young adults can care less about what’s going on around them, all they want to know is when the new iPhone is coming out or new gaming system is to come next. This is a distraction to what’s around us, all we think about are those new shiny toys that will allow access to these social networks or violent games. Someone could be walking down the street sending a text or surfing the web and someone is in need of assistance, that person would never get aided because a teen is too wrapped up in what they have going on in their phone.

Talking to a person from the older generation, it is likely to hear “in my days, that type of behavior was not acceptable” or “mama would have slapped you across the mouth, if you said that to her”. On the other hand
