Assuming that you do know how to draw a 45 degree angle.. 
1. Place the point of your compass where both lines meet to form the angle 
2. open the compass a few inches/cm and score an arc on both lines that forms the angle 
3. place the point of the compass on each arc and score two intersecting arcs between those 2 lines 
4. Draw a straight line from the apex of the 45 degree angle through the centre of the intersecting arcs The smaller angles on both sides of the new line is your 22.5 degree angle or 1/2 your 45 degree angle.
