What is a food chain:

The food chain is the transfer of matter and energy in form of food from one organism to the other. In all the food chain the producers are always plants.

Aquatic food chain.

  • The aquatic food chain represents how energy travels among the aquatic life forms. A 4 trophic level food will have 1 producer and 3 consumers
  • Producers are always the phototrophs, primary consumers are always herbivores and in the case of aquatic life are the phytoplanktons.
  • Rest all the consumers after the primary consumers are carnivorous and are predators. It may include sharks, crabs, or any other predators of the aquatic habitat.

Hence a 4 trophic level food chain in aquatic habitat will have 3 consumers and single producers, which are aquatic plants. below is the picture representing the same.
