A consumer is an important participant in the market. In case of consumer exploitation, the rights of the consumer must be protected. There are six consumer rights as mentioned in the regulatory Consumer Protection Act of 1986. Businesses rely on different marketing strategies to sell their goods and services to customers. These strategies aimed at maximising sales, can however, be misleading or even false at times.

Consumers have every right to be protected against false claims, health hazards from products and services, etc. They are the ones who pay money and buy goods and services of the seller, thereby supporting the seller’s business and making it profitable. Currently there are several consumer bodies which have taken up this cause, to protect customers from false information and cheating by the seller.
