Reduction and oxidation reactions.Reduction is the loss of oxygen atom from a molecule or the gaining of one or more electrons. A reduction reaction is seen from the point of view of the molecule being reduced, as when one molecule gets reducedanother gets oxidised. The full reaction is known as a Redox reaction.

Heya Bestie !!!

★----------- Here is your answer ---★

Oxidation ★

The Loss of electrons Is called Oxidation or the process in which an atom or an ion loses electron is called Oxidation ...

For Example ★

Zn - 2e ----> Zn2+
( Loss of electrons)

Na - e ------> Na+
( loss of electrons )

We also say that the addition of oxygen and removal of hydrogen is also called Oxidation ...

Example ★
C + O2 ----> CO2 ( Addition of oxygen )
H2S + Cl2 -----> 2HCl +S ( Hydrogen sulphide is oxidised to sulphur due to loss of Hydrogen)

Now ----------

Oxidising Agent ★

An oxidising Agent. is one that oxidises other substance by either accepting electrons or by providing oxygen or an electro positive ion or by removing hydrogen or an electronegative ion

Examples ★
Solids ---- Manganese oxide
liquid --- Nitric Acid
Gases - Chlorine

Example under electrons concept

CuO + H2 -----> Cu + H20

So here H2 is oxidised to H20 and CuO is reduced to Cu
So CuO is oxidising agent and H2 is reducing agent

Henceforth Oxidising agent is acceptor of electrons

That's it
