#@ Jhansi is synonymous with Rani Lakshmibai who played unforgettable role during the Indian Mutiny of 1857.

Rani Lakshmibai, the India's Joan of Arc, single-handedly defied the British after death of her husband, Raja Gangadhar Rao, in 1853 leaving no adult heir.

She desired to rule as Regent but the British invoked the infamous Doctrine of Lapse and she was driven away from her kingdom.

When the Indian Mutiny of 1857 was in the offing in the north, she and her general, Tantia Tope, captured the Gwalior Fort.

She died defending it at Kotah-Sarai near Gwalior in 1858.

According to historians, she died dressed as a man, holding her sword two-handed and reins of her horse in her mouth. @#
