Dr. Rajendra Prasad was actually head of India’s constituent assembly ( Not Dr. Ambedkar as most people think , Ambedkar was head of drafting committee )
Dr. Rajendra Prasad was a lawyer and served as congress president several times before independence. He participated in freedom movement and also raised money for Bihar earthquake of 1934 in big way.
As a head of constituent assembly he had a big role to play in formation of constitution of India. He was a towering personality and could move 325 members with differing views in a conductive way.
He was elected chairman of the constituent assembly on the third day and after being elected as Chairman he formed a drafting committee with Dr B. R. Ambedkar as chairman of drafting commette and Alladi Krishnaswamy Ayyar, N. Gopalaswami Ayyangar, K. M. Mushi, Saiyid Mohd Saadulla, B L Mitter and D. P. Khaitan were included as other members of this Committee.
The draft prepared by this committee was discussed by assembly over 2 years 11 months and 17 days thoroughly. The final Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26th November 1949. This day is also known as National Law Day.
He was also chairman of two committees of the Constituent Assembly : Rules Committee and Steering Committee
After India became republic the constituent assembly served as interim parliament of India till first general election and after India became Republic Dr. Rajendra Prasad was elected as first President of India.
So in nutshell he was one of the founding father of modern Indian Republic.
