Answer:
Kanhoji Angre (1669 – 1729) not only developed the Maratha navy, but also forced the British to form a naval force, which evolved into the modern Indian Navy.
Kanhoji Angre was the undefeated Maratha Naval Chief during the 18th century. He was appointed the admiral, by the Chief of Satara in 1698. Under his leadership, the Maratha army attacked and harassed the British, Dutch and Portuguese navies.
When the Marathas became weak, Angre took upon himself the task of attacking foreign navies in Indian waters. He was so famous that the Dutch and Jamaicans came to work on his ships.
