Nervous system regulates and maintains all the functions occurring in the body consciously and subconsciously. The functions are carried out through the hormonal system. Regulation of nerves is governed by central nervous system through nerve impulses.

Nervous system is also responsible for the functioning of hormonal system (endocrine system). The endocrine system works at the biochemical level whereas the nervous system is known to work at the physical and physiological level. Endocrine glands pour the secretions (hormones) into the blood through which it is transported throughout the body. The target cells have specialized receptors which pick up the required hormone, and response as per the stimulus.

Feedback system enables the control and regulation of hormonal secretion and the activity of endocrine glands.

Therefore, the integration of the nervous system and hormonal system is carried by the hypothalamus. It is a part of brain which secretes neurohormones for the regulation of pituitary hormonal secretions. Through a cascade (one by one) mechanism of hormonal secretion, the control and coordination of human body is maintained.
