The IUPAC name of the Ethylene Glycol is ethane-1,2 dial.

'dial' are formed when Alkenes are oxidized by the Cold Potassium Permangante solution, which is also called as the Bayer's test.

During the Reaction, colored solution get vanished and the formed result is colorless due to the formation of dial. This Test is used for the detection of the Double bond in the solution.

During the Reaction, KMnO₄ comnies with the Water, thus Forming,

2KMNO₄ + H₂O ------- 2MnO₂ + 2KOH + 3[O]

The 3 Nascent Oxygen formed Oxidizes the Alkenes and thus forming dials.

CH₂=CH₂ + [O] + H₂O ------------- CH₂(OH) - CH₂(OH)

The Compound formed is Ethylene Glycol or ethane-1,2 dial.
