According to the question,the conversion of the phenol to the salol will be:


Chemical reaction:


Step1

React phenol with NaOH for getting the sod.phenoxide ion.


Step2

React sod.phenoxide ion with dry ice

(Carbon dioxide)


Step 3

The product formed in the step 2 becomes salol or the salicylic acid due to the presence of the diluted hydrochloric acid.


In this way we can make salol from phenol.
