# Step 1 -

Butene is first treated with hydrogen bromide in presence of peroxide to give n-butyl bromide.

CH3-CH2-CH=CH2 + HBr --> CH3-CH2-CH2-CH2-Br

# Step 2 -

n-butyl bromide is then treated with sodium iodide in presence of dry acetone to form n-butyl iodide.

CH3-CH2-CH2-CH2-Br + NaI --> CH3-CH2-CH2-CH2-I + NaBr
