Following are the steps when followed convert 4-nitrotoluene to 2-bromobenzoic acid :->

1. Firstly, bromination of 4-nitrotoulene is done by reacting it with Br2.
2. The previous product is reacted with Sn/HCl that coverts –NO2 to –NH2.
3. Now, it is reacted with NaNO2/HCl that again converts –NH2 group to –N2Cl.
4. It is now reacted with H3PO2 and water and followed with KMnO4 and –OH to form the final required compound i.e. 2-bromobenzoic acid.
