Conversion of benzene to m-nitrophenol

1. The benzene must be treated with sulfuric acid $(H_2SO_4)$and nitric acid ($HNO_3$.
2. Due to nitrification, the reaction yields nitro benzene which on reaction with aluminium chloride ($AlCl_3$) yields an intermediate compound.
3. When the intermediate compound is treated with potassium hydroxide (KOH) it leads to the formation of m-nitrophenol.
