CH3CH2OH ---> CH2=CH2 + H2O

- Step 2 -
Acetylene reacts with HBr to give ethyl bromide.
CH2=CH2 + HBr ---> CH3CH2Br

- Step 3 -
Ethyl bromide reacts with NaNH2 to give sodium acetanilide.
CH3CH2Br + NaNH2 ---> NaC≡CH + NH3 + HBr

- Step 4 -
Sodium acetanilide when treated again with ethyl bromide, it gives but-1-yne.
NaC≡CH + CH3CH2Br ---> CH3CH2C≡CH + NaBr
