Isopropyl alcohol can be converted into propyl alcohol by following step of reactions -

(i) React isopropyl alcohol with SOCl$_{2}$ , 2-Chloropropane is formed .

(ii) React 2-Chloropropane with alcoholic KOH , Propene is formed .

(iii) React propene with ( BH$_{3}$ )$_{2}$ and H$_{2}$O$_{2}$ / O$H^{-}$ , Propyl alcohol​ is formed .

• The reaction in the first step is known as Darzen's reaction .

• The reaction in the third step is known as hydro - boration oxidation reaction .
