Following are the steps needed to convert propan-2-ol to bromopropane :->

  • Firstly, propan-2-ol is heated in the presence of alcoholic KOH which leads to production of propene. This reaction is called as dehydrohalogenation.
  • Now, propene goes under Anti-Markovnikov addition reaction. It is reacted with Hydrogen Bromide (HBr) and peroxide to form the required compound, Bromopropane.
