Though the process is almost common in all banks, each bank can add/remove a condition to be fulfilled while converting an individual’s account into a joint account; such as “ The due diligence process, while opening a deposit account will involve satisfying about the identity of the person, verification of address, and compiling a customer profile. Obtaining recent photograph of the person/(s) opening / operating the account is part of due diligence process.“
I suggest you get in touch with your account branch directly or through the portal at: https://www.sbi.co.in/portal/web...;
According to SBI rules, the Bank may at the request of all the joint account holders allow addition or deletion of name/(s) of joint account holder/(s) if the circumstances so warrant or allow an individual depositor to add the name of another person as a joint account holder.

To convert an existing single account into a joint account, a letter from the existing account holder attesting the specimen signature of the new person(s) has to be obtained and attached to the Account Opening Form. All the changes have to be properly recorded duly authenticated by an authorized officer.
