Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Co-ordinate of point P on a number line is – 7. Find the co-ordinates of points on the number line which are at a distance of 8 units from point P.

:

8 8 . . - . - -7. , . ∴ -7 > ∴ (, ) = -7 - ∴ 8 = -7 – ∴ = – 7 – 8 ∴ = -15 . - . - -7. , . ∴ > -7 ∴ (, ) = 7- (-7) ∴ 8 = + 7 ∴ 8 – 7 = 7 ∴ = 1 ∴ - 8 -15 1.

Given :   coordinate of pt. P  on a number line is '-3'.

To find :   the co-ordinates of points on the number line which are at a distance of 5 units from P

Solution:

coordinate of pt. P on a number line is '-3'.

Let say point B is  a distance of 5 units from P

Coordinate of B = x

=> |  x - (-3)|  =  5

=> | x + 3 |  =  5

=> x + 3 = 5  or  x + 3 = - 5

=> x = 2  or x = - 8

Hence   co-ordinates of points on the number line which are at a distance of 5 units from P    are -8 and  2
