Question :

What coordinates with ER for the process of MEMBRANE BIOGENESIS ?

A Golgi bodies

B Chloroplast

C Lysosomes

D None of these

Answer :

" Golgi Bodies "

Membrane biogenesis is the process of formation of plasma membrane and plasma membrane, is composed of lipids and proteins.

Membrane biogenesis is the process, when some proteins and lipids (produced in smooth endoplasmic reticulum) help in building the cell membrane, inside a cell.

Golgi apparatus is involved in transportation, modification, and packaging proteins and lipids that are synthesized in the endoplasmic reticulum into vesicles.

Know more :

Rough endoplasmic reticulum (rough ER) :-

The rough endoplasmic reticulum (rough ER) is a part of the endomembrane system of the cell and a subset of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER).

Function -

  • synthesis, folding and modification of proteins, especially those that need to be delivered to different organelles within the cell, or secreted from the cell.

  • also involved in the response of the cell to unfolded proteins and plays a role in the induction of apoptosis, due to its close interaction with mitochondria.

Smooth endoplasmic reticulum :-

Smooth endoplasmic reticulum (sER) is (a part of) endoplasmic reticulum that is tubular in form and lacks ribosomes. It is present in eukaryotic cells.

Function -

  • associated with lipid synthesis
  • carbohydrate metabolism
  • regulation of calcium concentration
  • and drug detoxification.
