Copper corrode but bronze doesn't corrode

You can only make iron oxide from iron and oxygen; you can't make it out of copper or tin, so copper and bronze can never rust. Copper and bronze can corrode or tarnish, however. In fact, all metals except precious metals like gold will eventually corrode back to a form very similar to the ores we find in nature.

Copper, brass, and bronze do not rust for the same reason as aluminum. All three have a negligible amount of iron in them. Therefore no iron oxide, or rust, can form. However, copper can form a blue-green patina on its surface when exposed to oxygen over time.
