No, HCl acid does not react with copper. Only those metals whose standard reduction potentials are lower than that ofhydrogen react with non-oxidising acidslike HCl and dil.H2SO4, and displacehydrogen from them. ... But it does react with dilute HCL in the presence of oxygen
