  • ∆l verses l² graph is of straight line .

Given-

  • Length of wire = L
  • Force = f
  • Extension produced in the wire is = ∆l

As, V = Al , where A is area of cross section of the wire, l is length of the wire and V is volume.

Y = (F/A)/(∆l/l) = Fl / A∆l where Y is Young's Modulus.

∆l = Fl/YA = Fl²/YV

From the above equation it is clear that ∆l is directly proportional to l².

Hence the graph between ∆l and l² is of straight line.
