1) Copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate,  CuSO_{4} .5H_{2} O, on the other hand, is a well known efflorescent substance.

2) The pentahydrate is blue in color. When you expose it to air, it will start losing water of hydration through evaporation and form a layer of anhydrous copper(II) sulfate,  CuSO_{4}, which is pale green in color.
