The international date line is an imaginary line that follows exactly 180-degree longitude.

  • 180-degree longitude is called an international dateline because it passes through both sides of the international date lines having two different dates on either side of the line.
  • This can be proved by an example, where the time in Samoa is 3 pm on Sunday and the time in Tonga is 3 pm on Monday which is located just 550 miles away on the other side of the line. This is the reason it is called an international dateline.
