The IUPAC name of the compound is Ethyl 2-bromopropanoate.

The naming has been done as follows -

  • The longest carbon chain is selected, which in this case has 3 carbons, hence the name propane.
  • Next, the functional groups present are ester and halide (bromine).
  • Going by the priority order of functional groups for nomenclature, the suffix will be for ester and the prefix will be for halide.
  • Also we, have one more carbon chain of 2 carbon atoms, thus naming it ethyl.
  • We will start numbering from 1st carbon so that Bromine gets the least number.
  • Thus, we get Bromine on number 2 carbon.

Finally, we get,

Ethyl  2 - bromo - propane - enoate

Combining we get,

Ethyl 2-bromopropanoate is the IUPAC name.
